In this 2023-08-28 edition of the GBIF Backbone we have updated various sources but also had small changes to configurations and the name matching software. Reported issues from the portal and github have been addressed.
The Catalogue of Life (COL) July 2023 Checklist has been used as the basis and for most of the hierarchy. New sources added in this version:
As always Plazi has been adding many new publications containing new species descriptions.
Keep all OTUs as accepted names.
We have improved matching to species aggregates and higher taxa.
We fixed the virus classification and forced the much richer ICTV and Catalogue of Life hierarchy with 10 kingdoms and several realms into the single traditional kingdom in the Backbone.
